Derek, yes we do have Backup Exec installed and had this error which was resolved by this post

Solved it for me – Symantec wanted me to start looking into ODBC, but tried this first

Do you know why the Embedded Database hangs? I’ve been asked to find the root cause of this and can’t find anything.

Thanks for your valuable input. It’s good to know that upgrading my installs of Backup Exec probably won’t help (stuck on 12.0 at the moment).
